So. As usual I have become bored of my mode of existence and now seek change. I’ve gotten tired of having my lit blog as my main, especially since I’m less productive now and spend more time taking dumb pictures of fish than I do writing.
Those of you who adore my stupid personality should follow hayisforhoruss which is my new main. It’ll be a mix of fandom, personal, and biology crud, as well as art and lit. [aka what this is now, but with sudden poetic diversions.] Those of you who don’t enjoy my inane commentary should follow atombombproductions, a side blog for just art, lit, and non-dumb photography.
I will be following most of you back from my new main, so don’t you know, get all lonely.

Do not keep goldfish with any other fish besides goldfish. They have different needs and will not survive together for long.
Better tip: If you want to keep other fish with your goldfish, research and get confirmation from multiple sites that their needs…
Yeah, and if their is an algae outbreak…DO NOT GET A PLECO! Just scrub the tank. The goldies may even nibble it :)

No. Fuck you. ANY LIVING THING YOU ADD TO YOUR TANK ONLY MAKES IT DIRTIER, WHETHER THAT MANIFESTS ITSELF AS ALGAE OR NITRATE SPIKES.
Having kept goldfish with other fish before, it’s a works-til-it-doesn’t scenario. I had a fantail in with my flag cichlids for months with no issues, and it looked like a permanent mix..until the second-dominant flag decided to riot, which upset the social scale and led to the fan getting too many split fins. Fortunately I have a container pond.
If you had, say, a community of 2-4 inch hardy community fish in a large tank, you could keep a fancy goldfish or two with them indefinitely PROVIDED you’re an experienced fish keeper and can keep up the increased water changes and oxygen requirements of the tank.
[also, female bettas will chase baby comets, which is kind of hilarious]
